Tiebersee is just 30 mins by car from Graz, also reachable on weekdays by 100 bus to Röthelstein Ort in 1 hour. One of my favourite lakes near Graz, it’s surrounded by wooded hills and mountains. The grassy banks extend to the water’s edge, with plenty of room to spread out and there are lots of trees for shade. The water is warm enough to swim, it’s also a fun place to paddle board. There are also two cafes, a small playground, volleyball, basketball and football courts and table tennis.

Entry is €7 adults, €6 after 14:00, kids under 13 are free, reduced rates for kids 13+, students, seniors etc. After 19:00 everyone is free, also on bad weather days. Parking is €5, free after 17:00.

You can also combine your visit with a stroll around the pretty nearby town of Frohnleiten – walk through the Hauptplatz with the beautiful old buildings to the church, then down to the river and cross the bridge, turn left and stroll along the other side to a very pretty small park filled with flowers. You can stop at the restaurant Porto which has a nice seating area right on the river.
